Ambient Egypt debuted at the Seattle Art Museum in 1998 as soundtrack music for the exhibit, Egypt, Gift of the Nile. The CD has since been featured internationally in art museums, on public radio, and as soundtrack music for video and film projects.

Many of Douglas Irvine’s unusual sound samples for Ambient Egypt were recorded during his research of the musical instruments of ancient Middle Eastern cultures. Some of that research involved his crafting of ancient Egyptian instrument replicas for museum exhibits, lectures and recording projects. A few rare sound samples for the CD derive from surviving instruments (small bells and finger cymbals) of the ancient world.
